Dry needling vs. Acupuncture

Although similar, dry needling and acupuncture are a little different. Dr. Philipose is certified in both. Acupuncture is the ancient treatment of balancing energy points vs. dry needling uses needles to break up trigger points for pain and inflammation relief.

Acupuncture can be done in various ways. Laser, electrical, needle, pellets, beads and various other techniques can be used. Needle and Needless acupuncture are both effective.

Dry needling use techniques can also vary including needling the trigger point or pain area back and forth or by using electrical stimulation.

Athletic injuries, chronic back, knee and various other joints, fibromyalgia and acute injures can all benefit from dry needling.

What are the benefits of dry needling?

Dry needling may provide relief for some muscular pain and stiffness. In addition, easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase range of motion. That’s why this method is often used to treat sports injuries, muscle pain, and even fibromyalgia pain.

Mild side effects are very common with dry needling but serious side effects are rare.

The most common side effects around the injection site include:

bruising
bleeding
temporary soreness
