“Is EBOO covered by insurance?” is one of the most common questions people ask. The short answer is that it generally is not. Here is why, and what to ask.
Why insurance usually does not cover it
Insurers typically cover treatments that are FDA-approved for a diagnosed condition or considered medically necessary under their policies. EBOO is investigational and is not FDA-approved to treat disease, so most plans do not reimburse it.
HSA and FSA funds
Whether health savings or flexible spending funds can be used depends on your plan and how the service is classified. We cannot tell you your plan will allow it. Ask your plan administrator before you pay.
Questions to ask your clinic
- What is the full cost, and what is included?
- Are there packages, and what happens if I stop early?
- Can you provide an itemized receipt?
