What is EBOO therapy?
EBOO stands for extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation. “Extracorporeal” means outside the body. During a session, blood is drawn from one arm, passed through a sterile filter where it is exposed to a controlled mixture of medical-grade oxygen and ozone, and returned through the other arm in a continuous loop. The setup is closer to a dialysis-style circuit than to a standard IV drip.
EBOO grew out of earlier ozone techniques such as major autohemotherapy (MAH) and “10-pass” ozone. Its main difference is volume: because blood flows continuously through the filter for the whole session, more blood is exposed to the oxygen-ozone mixture than in a single IV ozone treatment.
How an EBOO session works, step by step
- Check-in and vitals. Staff confirm how you are feeling, review any medication changes and take your vital signs.
- Two IV lines. One line is placed in each arm: one to draw blood, one to return it.
- The circuit. Blood passes through a sterile, single-use filter and tubing set while oxygen and ozone are introduced at protocol-set concentrations. An anticoagulant is used in the circuit per protocol to keep blood from clotting in the tubing.
- Monitoring. Staff stay with you and monitor you throughout. Most people read, use their phone or rest.
- Finish and post-check. The lines are removed, pressure is applied to both sites, and staff recheck your vitals before you leave.
Filters and tubing are single-use and sterile, and are never reused between patients. Most people go about their day afterward; some prefer to have someone drive them home after their first session.

Is EBOO safe? Screening and who should not have it
EBOO is a blood-handling procedure, so screening matters more than marketing. Before your first session, a licensed member of our medical staff (MD, DO, NP or PA) completes a Good Faith Examination that reviews your history, medications and recent labs.
EBOO is not appropriate, or needs extra caution, if you have:
- G6PD deficiency. G6PD is an enzyme that protects red blood cells from oxidative stress. Without it, ozone can cause red blood cells to break down (hemolysis). We screen for it before anyone starts.
- Pregnancy. Ozone therapy is not used during pregnancy.
- Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism.
- Bleeding or clotting disorders, or blood thinners. Anticoagulant use requires coordination with your prescribing physician and may rule EBOO out.
- A recent heart attack, stroke or unstable heart condition.
- Severe anemia, very low blood pressure, or veins that cannot support two IV lines.
- Highly reactive mast cell activation. This requires careful evaluation first.
EBOO side effects
Common and usually short-lived:
- Tiredness or a “washed out” feeling for a day or two
- Bruising or soreness at the IV sites
- Mild headache, lightheadedness or muscle aches
Less common:
- A drop in blood pressure or a vasovagal (fainting) reaction during the session
- Reaction to the anticoagulant used in the circuit
- Clotting in the circuit, which ends the session early
- Rarely, infection at an IV site or hemolysis
Call the clinic for anything that worries you after a session, and call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing or fainting.
Does EBOO work? What the research shows
Ozone therapy has been studied since the 1990s, and EBOO specifically has been the subject of a small number of clinical studies, mostly in circulation-related conditions. The evidence is early and limited: studies are small, protocols vary, and there are no large, well-controlled trials establishing EBOO as a treatment for any disease. EBOO is not FDA-approved for the treatment of any medical condition.

How many EBOO sessions will I need?
There is no standard number, and anyone quoting one before evaluating you is guessing. As a general pattern:
- Initial series: often 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart
- Longer series: some patients do 6 to 10 sessions
- Maintenance: when used, often one session every 4 to 8 weeks

How long do EBOO results last?
It varies from person to person, and there is no reliable research answer. Some people notice changes within a few sessions, others do not notice a difference. That is why we reassess after an initial series rather than committing anyone to an open-ended schedule.

What to expect: before, during and after
Before: eat a normal meal and drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of your session. Bring your current medication and supplement list.
During: wear a short-sleeved or loose top. Expect two needle sticks, then about an hour of sitting. Tell staff right away if you feel lightheaded, nauseated or unwell.
After: keep the IV-site bandages on for a few hours, stay hydrated and take it easy for the rest of the day if you feel tired.
